Part of the exhibition ‘Bauhaus: Utopia in Crisis’ at the Nova Artspace, Bauhaus University, Weimar. Produced for a portfolio that follows on from the 2019 exhibition of the same name at Camberwell Space curated by Daniel Sturgis and Katharina Wendler. It consists of an A3 box containing an item by each of the artists in the show (Juan Bolivar, Liam Gillick, Hopscotch Reading Room, Andrea Medjesi-Jones, Ad Minoliti, Sadie Murdoch, Judith Raum, Helen Robertson, Eva Sajovic, Schroeter + Berger & Alexis Teplin, Ian Whittlesea) in an edition of 20 boxes. The portfolio and an accompanying video projection were on display from 26 May to 7th June 2021. The Finger Exercises are part of The Egyptian Postures, the most advanced Mazdaznan exercises that Johannes Itten taught to the first generation of Bauhaus students. Itten claimed that the exercises descended directly from the Pharaohs, and that they stirred the blood and re-channeled internal energy in ways that contributed to the perpetual evolution of humanity. Demonstrated here by actor Ery Nzaramba the finger exercises are always reproduced in Mazdaznan publications without further instructions. |
