The Everyday Press presents
Sarah Dobai & Ian Whittlesea at Roaming ROOM

Thursday 9th February 7-9pm
24 Manchester Street, London W1U 4DJ

A performance and some posters in advance of the artists’ upcoming publications The Copyists (Dobai) and The Egyptian Postures (Whittlesea).

Sarah Dobai will be staging a new performance work entitled The Forged Coupon. The work will feature footage shot in an inaccessible room in the gallery building accompanied by a live reading of excerpts from Leo Tolstoy’s novella The Forged Coupon (1912). The performance relates to the forthcoming Everyday Press publication The Copyists. Piloted with a fold out photo-text work of the same name launched 2016 at Offprint Tate Modern, the performance and the publication relate to an on-going dialogue with art historian and curator Jo Melvin around representation, authorship and photography.

Ian Whittlesea will be presenting a series of posters featuring photographs of Ery Nzaramba demonstrating twelve esoteric Finger Exercises. Taken from The Egyptian Postures, the most advanced Mazdaznan exercises taught to the first generation of Bauhaus students by Johannes Itten, the Finger Exercises are always illustrated in Mazdaznan publications unaccompanied by any explanatory text or instructions. Itten claimed they were directly descended from those used by the Pharaohs, and that they could result in auto-illumination, the participant’s body generating light from within visible to any onlooker.

The Everyday Press was founded in 2007 by artist Arnaud Desjardin to publish the work of visual artists as printed matter. The Copyists (Dobai) and The Egyptian Postures (Whittlesea) will be published by The Everyday Press in 2017.
